The DAC2.5 converts your digital media into music for the most direct connection to your amplifier and provides full system control and is loaded with features including an analog input.
This allows you to experience your music through the convenience of a single component, eliminating the need for a preamplifier.
The Bel Canto Dual-Differential DAC2.5 Control Center features an outstanding 122dB dynamic range and our proprietary low noise digital to analog convertor core. Including five 24/192 digital inputs, 24/96 USB input and a 24/192 ADC analog input, the DAC2.5 integrates and controls all of your audio sources including an analog input for a phono preamp or Home Theater Bypass
. The front panel features a single multifunction control knob that selects inputs and controls volume level for both the main outs and ¼” front-panel headphone jack. The headphone jack is driven by a dedicated DAC/Amplifier circuit that optimizes its output and eliminates any compromises in the main signal path.
The DAC2.5 also includes our new 8 character alpha-numeric display and the ability to control balance, absolute phase and to rename and disable unused inputs.
The foundation of the DAC2.5 is our jitter-eliminating Master Reference Ultra-Clock circuitry that insures that jitter from any source is reduced below the audible threshold.
The 24-bit digital volume control is completely transparent and accurate throughout the volume range. This precision continues with custom 0.1% audio grade resistors, class-A output circuitry and low noise power supply components.
The heavy-gauge all-steel chassis design prevents mechanical resonance from compromising the audio signal quality.
The advanced internal LNS (Low Noise Supply) prevents power line noise from corrupting the signal using technology developed in the VBS1 external power supply. The DAC2.5 connects directly to the mains AC with a standard IEC connection.
The DAC2.5 musical performance rests on the solid foundation of the Master Reference Ultra-Clock™. The Master Reference Ultra-Clock™ provides jitter performance 50x better than other clocks. Specifications of 2 picoseconds RMS and frequency accuracy of 0.0001% insure maximum dynamic range. The Master Reference Ultra-Clock circuit is preceded by a new aggressive 2Hz jitter filter, insuring that any incoming jitter on the data inputs can not compromise the final analog output signal quality.
The DAC2.5 has been optimized to provide the highest level of performance for all of these critical functions. It can provide digital preamplifier as well as D/A conversion and bridge from traditional CD or DVD player sources and from the isolated USB input for computer music playback sources.
All digital input sources benefit from the new 2Hz digital PLL stage that rolls off incoming jitter by more than 10X at 10Hz frequencies and greater than 10,000X by 100 Hz. Any incoming jitter at frequencies above 10Hz is reduced to levels that have no effect on measured or sonic performance.
The combination of the internal LNS1 stage and the new jitter filtration provide a well isolated environment for the DAC2.5 Digital to Analog stage. The final conversion to analog is no longer subject to external noise and interference sources and the resulting purity and dynamic quality is highly musical and compelling.
The High Dynamic Range analog input section provides 110dB of dynamic range for any of your analog sources-it can be connected to a PHONO3 preamplifier for a complete system including a turntable source. Or it can be configured as a Home Theater Bypass to integrate into a complete high performance system with the best performance for your 2-channel sources.
The dedicated headphone DAC/Amplifier stage is designed to drive any headphone with remarkable fidelity. This dedicated stage insures no compromise to either the main analog outputs or the headphone output. The main analog outputs are muted digitally when a headphone is plugged into the front panel jack. There is no additional switching of any analog signals or routing of analog lines. The headphone circuitry is all DC coupled, avoiding any sonic compromise due to coupling capacitors.
The PCM1796 dual-differential multi-bit delta-sigma DAC circuit achieves remarkable analog performance. The 4VRMS true balanced XLR outputs provide 122dB of dynamic range. The noise floor of this DAC/processor is solow and so clean that the DAC2.5 is optimally used as a complete DAC/Preamplifier with a digital level control. Because of dither applied to the 24bit word there is no loss of effective resolution. The application of optimized dither insures that the analog output noise floor maintains a clean sound, devoid of any tones or artifacts.
The DAC2.5 can provide an optimum solution with the addition of a Bel Canto e.One amplifier, eliminating the need for an analog preamplifier. Green, low-heat, efficient isolated power supplies and a finely-tuned analog output stage make possible Bel Canto’s eco-friendly compact designs; Bel Canto music products are fine instruments that are musically satisfying, discrete and sleek to fit any room.

The Bel Canto 2.5 is remarkably superior to the previous version of this DAC! Wow! What a difference in almost every respect. Side by side the Benchmark the Bel Canto 2.5 leaves you feeling more Involved, Spacious, Dynamic and Open.
The Bel Canto 2.5 is remarkably superior to the previous version of this DAC! Wow! What a difference in almost every respect. The Benchmark is a fine sounding DAC in its own right and will continue to live on its merits. Side by side the Bel Canto 2.5 leaves you feeling more involved. Spacious, Dynamic and Open. Right now I am listening to the 2.5 through my Cary SLP 98 with the digital volume control on the Bel Canto set at the maximum. Listening last night (Balanced Mode) direct into the Pass Lab 600s it may be a tad, and I do mean a tad more dynamic, but those ECC 32 tubes in my Cary Well they are the icing on the cake for me. Remember that everyone does not have the same taste in or emotional involvement with recorded music. And after all isn't that what it's all about (The Music) Do yourself a favor ALWAYS LISTEN FOR YOUR SELF! As for me, I give Bel Canto a thumbs up on this one! ( SWEET ! )
